RCTV
Is RCTV being shut down because Hugo Chavez is an absolute dictator who wants to impose his tyrannical upon the people by silencing one of its integral voices or is RCTV an instrument of the West, with links to the U.S.? If the former is true, perhaps the shutting down of RCTV a precursor of things to come as the lines of division continue to be drawn throughout the globe.

Politics in Venezuela have been interesting in recent years. Here are a few highlights:
Chavez was overthrown and imprisoned by a coup d'etat several years ago.
The coup was sponsored in part by the local media, including RCTV.
The first thing that the leaders of the coup did was declare themselves absolute rulers, disbanding Parliament (the equivalent of our Congress, more or less).
A media CEO was allowed to run against Chavez in the succeeding election (perhaps Chavez knew in advance that he would win easily; when he was overthrown, severe riots broke out.)
The US, which has previously backed many coups against South and Central American leaders, announced support for the new government before that government actually established control, that is, before it existed in fact.
A few things about the communist government in Cuba may be relevant.
Since Castro nationalized many American businesses in Cuba, the US has supported one invasion attempt and many assassination attempts against him, as well as supporting violence against Cuban citizens, providing asylum to the perpetrators as in the recent case of Posada.
Castro does control the press in Cuba.
What conclusions might one draw?
Perhaps one conclusion is that the US government will sacrifice its ethics of human rights and truth to achieve geo-political and economic goals.
