You don't necessary have to write about political issue. When you look at the class outline, the first essay is supposidly about the media. When he says media, its very broad. You can relate media to any of the readings we did. For example, you may write about Chomsky's propaganda model or something. I'm planning to write an essay where I'm going to compare the filters in the media between America and Japan. I watch both news and what is broadcasted is very different. I want to write about how the filters determine which news is considered important enough to be broadcasted, and how what is shown is different between the two countries.

Political issues are fine, but not required. Any theme that might in some way relate to the readings is fine.
